Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House on the University of Chicago campus is the most famous example of his Prairie School design, which was inspired by the sweeping horizons of the Midwest. Considered an architectural masterpiece, this quintessential Prairie house features horizontal planes, dramatic cantilevers, and long ribbons of art glass windows. Designated by the American Institute of Architects among the Top Ten Buildings of the 20th Century, the Robie House remains a cornerstone of modern functional form. Tours by the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust offer a firsthand experience of both its amazing contemporary spaces and the current restoration work that is returning the house to its original appearance.

Directions:
Take Metra: Metra Electric Line from Van Buren Station (southwest corner of Randolph and Michigan). Exit train at 55-56-57th Street station towards 57th Street. Walk west five blocks to Woodlawn (Harper Ave. is first intersection). Turn south and walk one block to 58th Street. The Robie House is on the corner of 58th Street and Woodlawn.
By Car: Lake Shore Drive (US 41) to the 53rd Street exit. Proceed west on 53rd Street to Woodlawn Avenue and turn south. The Robie House is at the corner of Woodlawn Avenue and 58th Street.
Notes:
Redeem the Go Chicago Card at the Robie House Museum Shop at 5757 S. Woodlawn Avenue. Tickets are subject to availability and there may be a wait. Arrive before noon for the best chance of accommodation.
