Celebrate the arrival of Spring on March 21 and 22 with the The Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theater’s presentation of Swan Lake!
One of Russia’s most distinguished artistic companies, The Theatre is known for their breathtaking performances blended with their beautiful music. Founded in 1926, this company’s version of Swan Lake will be staged by Natalia Makarova of the legendary Kirov Ballet, and will continue their distinguished tradition of bringing the works of Tchaikovsky to life on the stage.

Along with the new season of Bravo’s Top Chef being filmed in the Windy City, Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood, namely Broadway, has been named one of the Tastiest Streets in America by GOOD magazine.
The neighborhood is truly diverse, including white, black, Hispanic, and Asian residents, leading to a clash of culinary traditions that’s bound to make your mouth water. GOOD magazine recommends Silver Seafood for the freshest of fish (you pick your meal from the tank!), La Fonda Latino Grill for beef loin and sweet plantains, Thai Pastry for vermicelli with coconut milk sauce, and the Green Mill for rye whiskey and jazz.

As seen from this enchanting video, artist Michael Hayden created the 800-foot-long art installation entitled Sky’s the Limit that brightened up the United Air terminal at Chicago’s O’Hare airport.
While in transit, I love be able to experience art along the way. It makes trudging our way through busy airports a little easier when there’s music and light shows to calm our eyes and ears. One of my favorite installations lies in the McNamara tunnel in the Detroit airport, featuring art glass by Fox Fire Glass and music by Mills/James Productions.
Do you have a favorite art installation in an airport? Let us know in a comment and you might have us booking our connecting flights through the cities in your suggestions!

Museum of Contemporary Art Photo uploaded by hibino
If you’re stumped about what to do this weekend, I’ve got a plan for a perfect Friday out on the town!
Firstly, grab a Go Chicago Card and make a list of all the attractions you want to make sure to see during the day. All that I require is that you save the Museum of Contemporary Art for last, preferably around four or five.
Secondly, pick up a ticket for First Fridays from 6-10 pm at the Museum of Contemporary Art! You’ll “get swept up in culture and conversation” at this event presented by Macy’s in conjunction with the museum. This week’s theme is Traveling Star, complete with live music, complimentary snacks by Wolfgang Puck, a cash bar, and “creation stations” within the exhibits.
Cheers to the end of the workweek!

Air travel with kids can be a pain, especially when you are traveling to another country. After reading “Surviving Flights and Airports with Kids” from Condé Nast Traveler, you no longer have to worry about keeping children happy in the airport or on the plane.
The article provides helpful tips on preventing situations that may force your kids into a cranky state, such as protecting your children’s ears from aching during the take-off and landing.
It is also important to keep the kids entertained at the airports, especially during long layovers. Sometimes, there are not enough crossword puzzles or hand held games to prevent boredom. However, the children can indulge in kid-friendly activities at a number of airports. O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, for instance, has a children’s area called Kids on the Fly, offering fun exhibits and displays, including an interactive plane and a control tower to explore.
With these helpful tips, flying with your kids should be a breeze!

From their gigantic parade to the magic of the green Chicago River, this city certainly knows how to show its Irish spirit.
On Sunday, March 15th, the famous downtown Chicago Saint Patrick’s Day parade will take place at noon. The parade is held on the Saturday before the actual day to accommodate families with children who are not able to miss work or school to attend the parade. Taking public transportation to the event is highly recommended, due to increased traffic and closed roadways on the parade route. This informational page has a map of the route, directions for public transportation, and driving.
The dyeing of the Chicago River will take place on March 15 at 10:45 am. This is a tradition that spans back 40 years brought to the people of the city by the Chicago Journeymen Plumbers. The story behind this amazing feat is well worth a read, along with videos and photos of the event from previous years.
Last but certainly not least, a Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all our readers!
